After immigrating to the United States in 1980, Nan Yin Juan, her husband Ching Tao, and their daughter, Carolyn, and son, Yujen, settled in Rockville, Maryland. Both professionals in their 30s, Ching, a former newspaper editor in Taiwan, soon found work editing a local Chinese paper, while Nan Yin focused on raising their children.

After buying a personal life insurance policy, Nan Yin saw a career opportunity and became a financial professional. In the beginning, she faced language barriers, but her inroads into the Asian community and her unwavering dedication enabled her to overcome them. Nan Yin’s ability to establish strong relationships with her clients, along with her innovative efforts to grow her practice, enabled her to be among AXA’s leading associates. She’s written insurance-themed articles for Chinese-language newspapers and taken part in “AXA Financial Talk,” a TV show educating viewers on insurance issues. Nan Yin has gone on to win 13 consecutive Centurion Awards, become a Hall of Fame member, and join the ranks of AXA’s all-time leading women producers. 

But the success story of the Juan family doesn’t stop there. After leaving her job as an IT consultant, Carolyn, Nan Yin’s daughter, sought a career that would allow her to spend more time with her newborn son Kenneth. She followed her mother’s advice and joined Nan Yin’s practice. By 2004, she was a registered AXA Advisors financial professional. Her professional experience, combined with her mother’s financial industry experience helped Carolyn enjoy a successful first year earning a remarkable 43,000 PCs.

Their mother-daughter professional relationship has helped their business evolve. Carolyn has concentrated some of her effort on broadening their clientele to second-generation Asian-Americans and non-Asian-Americans as well. She’s also provided her mother with a succession plan, easing the concerns of clients while her mother cuts back on hours to spend more time with her husband. Through her own hard work and dedication to her clients, Carolyn has embraced her mother’s celebrity status and trusted reputation within the Asian community. Like mother, like daughter.
