Miles Ahead on the Road to Success

Growing up in New Orleans, music was a big part of Tim Mackie’s life from the second grade when he picked up the saxophone. Not just any music, the music – jazz – in arts high school, school bands, local jazz bands.

In college, Tim chose another major and a different career path, but he never forgot what he learned playing the tenor saxophone. After graduating from Southern University, he joined AXA Advisors, LLC (then The Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States) as a registered representative in his hometown of New Orleans. Any good jazz musician will tell you that to play well, you have to be able to listen, to hear what other band members are playing. Being a financial professional is about listening too, listening to people talk about their financial needs and goals, and then helping them map out a strategy to meet those goals.

Tim is a good listener and has built a successful career. In a sense, he’s moved up from sideman to bandleader. He was promoted to District Manager and was later promoted to Divisional Executive Vice President in 1988 for the Virginia Beach Branch. Today, Tim is responsible for orchestrating the work of the Great Lakes Branch’s 360 financial professionals. Now, that is a big band.

Tim is a member of many social, community and business organizations including Booker T. Washington Business Association, National Association of Black Accountants, The Double OO Riders Association and the 102^nd United States Colored Troops Civil War Re-Enactors.
