A Leap of Faith Leads to Success

Edwin Soto- Quiñones obtained his degree in Information Systems from the University of Puerto Rico because he thought he wanted a career as a computer programmer.  However, the son of a businessman and music producer, Edwin followed in his father’s footsteps and began a music sales and distribution business. He ran a successful business for several years, but eventually sold the business and left the industry.

Soon after, he was approached by his next door neighbor, the branch manager of AXA Advisors’ LLC, Puerto Rico office, and offered a job opportunity as a financial professional.  Edwin was hesitant at first – he felt that it would be a big risk to work in the insurance business because he did not have a background in this industry.  However, when he learned that the company would provide in-depth training on the financial and technical aspects of the business, and that the most important skill was to be able to build relationships, he decided to take a chance.

The risk reaped reward for Edwin. Beginning his career in 1998, he was promoted to divisional vice president two years later.  He went on to earn the title of “Rookie Manager of the Year” for all of AXA Advisors, which has more than 60 branch offices spanning the United States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

Working to hire and develop individuals to grow their careers as successful financial professionals, Edwin was again recognized for his achievements, earning the company’s District Leader and the District Development Awards. These achievements led to his promotion to Executive Divisional Vice President and Branch Manager of the Puerto Rico branch.

Edwin attributes his success in this business to his drive and determination to succeed, but also to the family-like bond within AXA Advisors.  He received a lot of help from experienced professionals who became mentors to him, giving him the support he needed to get his career off the ground. He said that even though he is in Puerto Rico, the relationships with AXA’s colleagues on the U.S. mainland have also helped him to achieve his career goals.
